  • 5 Important Words
  • K-W-L Chart
  • Today’s Tweet
  • The Point Was…
  • Rate and Write
  • Frayer’s model (4 corners)
  • Exit Ticket
  • Text Check
  • “Drawing” Conclusions
  • My reflection
  • 60-Second Sand Summary

These activities are a valuable resource for having students reflect on their own learning and for quickly determining the general level of understanding in your classroom. The activities are also an excellent time-filler for when you have just a few minutes left at the end of class but don’t want to start an entire new activity. The strategies challenge students to use a variety of skills–critical thinking, drawing, humor, writing– as they summarize information from the day’s lesson or activity.

Research suggests that summarizing is a high-yield strategy that helps increase student retention of information and overall performance in the classroom. Give your students the chance to take their learning to deeper levels using these check for understanding strategies!

With some creative thinking and planning, the possibilities are numerous with these printables! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- All artwork is the original copyrighted work of Charlotte James, Ph.D. Use of these blackline masters is for non-commercial use by one teacher only. Fun Fact Coordinate Graphing Picture: Flamingo

$2.00
With this activity, students will practice coordinate graphing on all four quadrants of the coordinate plane (with precision up to one-fourth of a unit). Students will connect each point as they graph in order to reveal the answer to the fun fact! This is a great way to review skills for graphing and the activity lends itself toward the discussion of fractional parts on the coordinate plane. In addition, this activity is wonderful for early finishers, skills enrichment, sub plans, or just plain fun, and the students learn something that they likely didn't know! When students are done, have them color their picture to use as fun classroom decor!
