In this activity, students will combine like terms of algebraic expressions as they tap into their creative side! Students will simplify algebraic expressions by combining like terms. Then, they will find their answer in a box on the next page and then decorate that box according to the directions for that exercise. The students will create their own colorful masterpieces as they reinforce their algebra skills, and you will be able to quickly check for understanding as the students assemble their artwork. This flexible activity allows students to stretch their imagination while reinforcing important algebra concepts.
This no-prep activity is an excellent resource for sub plans, enrichment/reinforcement, early finishers, and extra practice with some fun. It is especially useful for end-of-year practice, spiral review, and motivated practice when students are exhausted from standardized testing or mentally “checked out” before a long break (hello summer!). As an added bonus, the completed work doubles as excellent classroom decor and allows your students to show off not only their math, but also their artistic, skills!
