How it started?
Hi! My name is Charlotte, and I’m glad you stopped by! I am the founder of Funrithmetic and have made it my goal to motivate students to actually enjoy developing their math skills! I strive to create fun math practice and resources, especially aimed at secondary students.
Education
I am originally from Texas and received all of my degrees from Texas Tech University. I have a B.B.A. in Marketing, and a M.Ed. and Ph.D. in Educational Psychology. My husband is an active duty military member, so we’ve moved around a bit. I’ve taught many different subjects (but mostly secondary special education math) at 7 different schools during my career. I spent 14 years in the classroom before decided to promote to a full-time stay at home mom!
Fun Math Practice
While teaching, I noticed a trend toward scripted curriculum that stifled teacher creativity and student motivation. My students were terribly bored with the curriculum the district paid thousands of dollars for. And it was ineffective. I set out to make my own students something they would enjoy as they practiced their skills. This was the beginning of my color by number series of activities. My students loved them, as did the other math teachers in the building!
I saw such motivation from my students with these that I continued to make more art-related activities (I was also certified to teach art at the time). Eventually, I decided to start selling my resources in 2014, and this is how Funrithmetic began!
Today
I currently homeschool our four young children. But I still maintain my passion for math education! I continue to enjoy creating fun math practice and other educational resources. You can find these exciting math activities in my shop. I’ll occasionally post a thing or two in my blog, mostly tips and words of advice from a veteran teacher.
I also make time for hobbies! I enjoy using my cricut (I could go on and on and on about how every mother of young children needs one). I also work out regularly on my Peloton, which only cancels out my baking addiction! My husband is an avid gardener and though I have a black thumb, I do like canning the harvest.
I hope you’ll find something useful in my free worksheets, and if so, find more in my shop! Thanks for stopping by!
