In this activity, students will classify conic sections and rewrite equations into standard form while tapping into their creative side! Once students determine the classification and standard equation, they will follow the directions for the box that contains their answer on the next page. They will fill the boxes with fun patterns, drawings, and creative ideas! The students will create their own colorful masterpieces as they reinforce their advanced algebra skills, and you will be able to quickly check for understanding as the students assemble their artwork. This flexible activity allows students to stretch their imagination while providing essential skills practice and review.
This no-prep activity is an excellent resource for sub plans, enrichment/reinforcement, early finishers, and extra practice with some fun. It is especially useful for end-of-year practice, spiral review, and motivated practice when students are exhausted from standardized testing or mentally “checked out” before a long break (hello summer!). As an added bonus, the completed work doubles as excellent classroom decor and allows your students to show off not only their math, but also their artistic, skills!
